Two
vastly different cultures. Two vastly different styles of music. A deep bond in
the importance of music. Western Opera is pictured as loud and dramatic, often
with a woman wearing Viking horns and a very big dress. Indian Kathakali is
idealized in its drama as well, with elaborate skirts, colors, and vibrant make
up. Both are filled with cultural traditions and stories, dancing, singing, and
acting. Though the music differs in its orchestration and its theory, both hold
the same plot and musical structure. These dramas also have the same purpose-
to teach, to celebrate, to impassion, and to entertain.
